The Excelsior High Lady Eagles were in sparkling form at the Manchester High School/Charlie Fuller Field Events Meet, held last Saturday at Manchester High School in Mandeville, Manchester. The Lady Eagles had three podium topping performances, two of which were new meet records. Ashanti Wright equaled her PB in the Girls Class 3 DT, producing a throw of 36.19m for a new meet record. Not to be outdone, teammate Dahlia Sterling also had a record breaking performance in the Girls Open JT with a throw of 37.51m.
Meanwhile at the Douglas Forrest Invitational held on the same day at GC Foster College in Angels, St Catherine, our younger athletes performed admirably in the absence of most of the older more experienced campaigners. Martin Rose had a good outing in the Boys 800m Class 3, with a second place finish. Fellow Eagle, Joel Morgan also had to settle for 2nd place in the Boys Class 1 Long Jump as did Samoya Neil in the Girls Class 3 equivalent. The Eagles closed the meet in fine style with victory in the 4x400m Relay.
In preparation for Champs the student-athletes and coaches are using these pre-Champs meets to achieve the qualifying standards in their events, while working on fine-tuning various technical aspects of their respective disciplines. Many of our athletes have already attained the required standards, with just over nine weeks remaining to the "Big Dance". The challenge is to now make the necessary adjustments and improvements to ensure competitiveness at Champs. The overall Objective....Full100.
